‘Best with the Rift’ Adventure Title Plugged Launches Steam Greenlight Campaign

At this early stage in the virtual reality (VR) industry, few developers are willing to create videogames from the ground up with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), let alone claim that their title is ‘Best with the Rift’. But indie team Endtimes Studio has done just that this week as it launches a Steam Greenlight campaign for Plugged, a new VR compatible adventure experience. The campaign hopes to secure enough positive votes so that Plugged can be sold on the official Steam store come full release.

Plugged is described by the developer as a ‘new breed’ of adventure videogame. It boasts the classic point and click gameplay of older entries in the genre, though the pointing is done using the Oculus Rift’s head-tracking technology. Players need only look at the objects they wish to interactive with in order to solve puzzles. This is a concept seen in a number of other VR experiences, although rarely within a first-person adventure such as this. All that said, the title can still be played using a standard monitor and control set up.

In terms of story Plugged allows players to make decisions during the course of its narrative. The developer reveals that one such choice early on in the game will see players deciding over attending a job interview or pursuing an affair with a highschool sweetheart. These decisions will help to create a unique journey that has a number of different endings. Crucially, players will be able to change the choices they make throughout the title. Exactly where the story will take players is currently unknown.

It’s not clear when Plugged might launch. The title is being developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. VRFocus will continue to follow the experience moving forward, reporting back with any further updates on it.
