With Samsung’s Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) set to launch in the US next month and Oculus VR teasing the arrival of the Oculus Rift HMD as months away, consumer VR is nearly here. Few realise this more than Next Galaxy, which is currently busy developing its own social VR platform, Ceek. The company is also preparing to host the 2015 Business Innovation and Growth Summit (B.I.G.) which will take place on 20th January at the New World Center at Miami Beach, Florida. This year will feature Wired Senior Editor Peter Rubin talking about VR.
Rubin will be offering an address on the ‘State of Consumer Virtual Reality’ at the event. It’s bound to be an insightful talk given the technology’s current position. Rubin himself wrote an extensive article on Oculus VR for Wired Magazine back in June 2014. More recently he has been seen interviewing CEO Brendan Iribe at the 2014 Web Summit in Dublin, Ireland in which Iribe revealed that the Oculus Rift’s launch was ‘many months away’.
“Virtual Reality is going to have a monumental impact on our world,” Rubin said of the news. “It has been years in the making, but we’re now on the cusp of consumer VR being a truly transformative technology with the potential to change everything: entertainment, fitness, education, medicine, social media and much, much more. I am honored to be speaking at the B.I.G. Summit and look forward to sharing my thoughts on the industry and meeting pioneers and experts in the space.”
VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR-related news, reporting back with any further updates on the technology.
