It hasn’t been long at all since Gaijin Entertainment released its last update for virtual reality (VR) compatible historical combat title massively multiplayer online (MMO) title, War Thunder. Despite this the studio has today announced its next significant update in version 1.45, codenamed Steel Generals. The update is expected before the year’s end and will bring a host of improvements and additions for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) compatible title.
Highlighting the Steel Generals update is the first inclusion of World War II-era tanks. A total of 30 new vehicles will be added from a range of world powers including the likes of the Soviet army and Germany. Confirmed tanks so far include the M2 Medium Tank, the M16 Halftrack, the M4A1(76) Sherman, the M41 Walker Bulldog and M103 Heavy Tank. The developer has also confirmed that it will be bringing a wide range of new planes to the update.
Elsewhere Gaijin Entertainment has teased that the Steel General update will include new tools for creation and management of in-game tournaments, live streaming and huge improvements made to the title’s spectator modes. Of course these updates will apply to the PC version of the title where VR support is already available but will also arrive on the PlayStation 4 version, where support for the Project Morpheus HMD is also expected to be implemented in the future. VRFocus will continue to follow War Thunder, reporting back with all the latest updates.
