Samsung and Oculus VR have brought the Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) back into the spotlight at this year’s Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) in San Francisco, California. Over the past 24 hours the pair have announced a US release window for the device as well as confirmed its price and hinted at what could be in store for the future. Now those that have attended the show are being given the chance to win a free Gear VR.
Samsung is hosting a competition for SDC attendees to pitch them an idea for a Gear VR experience. Entrants are required to give their SDC badge ID number, so it won’t be possible for anyone not at the show to enter. Hopeful winners must provide a summary no longer than 200 words describing their Gear VR experience. Entries will be judged based on their, compelling, creative and unique aspects and the winner will receive their HMD ‘in a few weeks’.
Those interested need to head to one of today’s VR or videogame sessions to pick up a waiver for the competition. The prize will not including a Galaxy Note 4, the smartphone that runs with the HMD. The competition closes on 14th November at 23:59 PST. VRFocus is at SDC 2014 for its final day and will continue to bring you any further updates on the Gear VR and all other VR-related news.
