Back in September 2014 VRFocus reported on the launch of a Steam Greenlight campaign for a visually stunning upcoming virtual reality (VR) videogame named For Each Our Roads of Winter. This month indie developer Studio Ludibrium has passed that campaign, meaning the title will launch on the Steam digital store come full release on PC, Mac and Linux, at some point in the future. When it does launch it will include full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).
Little about For Each Our Roads of Winter has been revealed so far. The title is a first-person exploration experience said to be inspired by the likes of Myst and other works from developer Cyan Worlds. The story is yet to be detailed although the developer has teased that players will ‘uncover secrets of a past that never was’. Visually what’s been seen of the title so far is dark and gritty although immensely detailed. The developer has however stressed that what’s been shown is from a pre-alpha stage.
For Each Our Roads of Winter is being developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, a toolset that’s completely integrated with the Oculus Rift. The developer has said that both price and release date will be announced when they are ready, although has confirmed that this will be an episodic experience. Just how many episodes there will be hasn’t been mentioned. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress as it heads towards launch, reporting back with any further updates.
