Back at the reveal of Samsung’s Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) in September 2014 Oculus VR quietly announced its first internally-developed videogame in VR Quest. Little was revealed about the title at the time although the company’s John Carmack noted that it was ‘Zelda-esque’ during his talk at the Oculus Connect developer conference the following month. Now the title has a new name.
VR Quest is now Hero Battle, as Samsung announced at the 2014 Samsung Developer Conference keynote today. In Carmack’s same talk he mentioned that the title was yet to be decided, although this is certainly seems to be a finalised name. Details were yet again in scarce supply at the keynote, although it is of course possible that the title will be playable at the show itself over the coming days, just as it was at the Gear VR’s reveal.
Back at the reveal VRFocus managed to spend some time with Hero Battle and, though it still remains something of a mystery, got a basic grasp of its dungeon crawling gameplay. Just when either Oculus VR or Samsung will share more details about the title, such as a possible launch alongside Gear VR itself in early December 2014, are yet to be revealed. VRFocus is at SDC 2014 and will be bringing you all of the latest updates on Hero Battle and any other VR videogames.
