Not every virtual reality (VR) meetup needs to be based in a developer’s office or within a packed out hall. Over 2014 The VR in a Bar event at the Scenario bar in London, UK, has proved to be a popular way for the community to relax and catch up while sampling some of the latest VR content. Those interested in going will be glad to hear that the next event isn’t too far away, with some of the line up recently being revealed.
The next VR in a Bar takes place on 24th November 2014 in the usual place at the Scenario at 97 Stoke Newington Road, N16 8BX, London. This time around the event will be showcasing upcoming VR compatible space simulation title Elite: Dangerous on the Oculus Rift head-mounted display’s (HMD) second development kit (DK2). There will also be another two Oculus Rifts running some of the many VR experiences and demos that developers have released online over 2014.
Outside of the Oculus Rift a Durovis Dive HMD all also be on display. The device is one of the many that use a smartphone as both a display and head-tracking solution for low-cost VR experiences. As one of the few HMDs to have actually released onto the market, the kit is a good starting point for those interested in how VR with a smartphone might actually work before the release of more elaborate HMDs such as Samsung’s Gear VR.
These aren’t the only experiences that will be available at the next event, though additional VR titles will likely be revealed closer to the date itself. Entry to the next VR in a Bar is free, with tickets available from the Event Brite page. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR related events, reporting back with any further updates.
