While the 2014 Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) is currently taking place over in the US, London has its own mobile-based event this week in Apps World. Taking place at the ExCeL Centre today, Apps World gathers a number of industry figureheads to host talks on developing all kinds of apps for smartphones, tablets and more. Those attending the show this morning should look out for a virtual reality (VR) talk from nDreams CEO Patrick O’Launaigh.
O’Luanaigh will be hosting a presentation titled ‘Designing VR games and experiences for mobile’, which is set to take place at 10:40 GMT. The CEO is well suited to the subject given that nDreams is developing two VR experiences for Samsung’s Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD), which runs with the Galaxy Note 4 smartphone. Those experiences are turret-based sci-fi shooter Gunner and Perfect Beach, a meditative title that simply sits users on a beach.
The talk arrives in good time as Samsung has recently announced that Gear VR will be launching in the US in early December 2014, although dates for the rest of the world are yet to be confirmed. The kit will be releasing as an Innovator Edition designed for early adopters and developers and will cost $199 USD or $249 with a Samsung bluetooth controller thrown in. SDC’s final day gets underway later on, with plenty more talks still to come.
VRFocus will continue to follow the Gear VR, reporting back with all of the latest updates.
