Undoubtedly the biggest reveal at this year’s Oculus Connect developer conference was Crescent Bay, a new prototype for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). But that wasn’t the only surprise at show held in Hollywood California in September; Epic Games also revealed a brand new VR tech demo named Showdown, using its Unreal Engine 4. Footage of the experience has been kept under wraps for now, although a small glimpse has recently been shared and can be seen below.
The video below shows just a tiny slice of Showdown‘s explosive action, in which viewers are treated to a thrilling set piece experience in VR. The demo was designed to showcase the new features of Crescent Bay, including an improved display and integrated audio. It also shows off power of the Unreal Engine 4 in ways that previous Epic Games VR demos such as Couch Knights haven’t demonstrated.
It’s not yet clear if Showdown might see a release for Oculus Rift owners and developers, although the company has released its previous VR demonstrations in the past. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
