World of Diving Gets World War II Themed Update

Today sees the arrival of brand new content for popular virtual reality (VR) compatible diving simulator, World of Diving. Indie developer Vertigo Games has released a new update for the Early Access version of its first-person experience themed around World War II, packing new areas to explore. Those with access to the pre-release version of the title can gain access to the new content straight away.

Highlighting the update is a new wreck to explore, based on the reamins of German battleship Bismarck. As one of the two largest battleships to ever be be built in by Germany, players will have plenty to discover as they head underwater. The Bismarck was conducted for just one offensive operation in which is destroyed the British battle cruiser HMS Hood before being sunk itself by the British in 1941.

According to the developer this is the first time that World of Diving players can freely enter a wreck. Also included in the update is a remote operated vehcile (ROV) that players can use to shine lights in dark areas. It certainly marks a departure from the title’s previous updates, which have sometimes focused on more surreal wrecks to explore.

World of Diving is currently available for £14.99 GBP and features full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). The full experience hopes to launch on PC, Mac and Linux in 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress, reporting back with any more updates.
