With a number of high profile failures on the Kickstarter crowd-funding platform in the past few months it’s always reassuring to see videogame developers take a more modest approach to reaching funding goals. Indie studio Phr00t has done just that with its own campaign for upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible stealth action title, 4089: Ghost Within. The developer hopes to raise just $3,000 for the project, which supports the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).
A free tech demo for this first-person experience can currently be downloaded on the Kickstarter campaign page. The experience is in fact a sequel to the developer’s previous titles, 3079 and 3089. In the full title players will find themselves on procedurally generated alien mother ship using a combination of stealth and combat to progress. Players will be able to hack cameras and doors as well as build walls, decoys and turrets. A grappling hook will be at their disposal and skills will be upgradable.
Those interested in 4089: Ghost Within can currently pledge $10 to secure a digital copy of the title when it releases in January 2015 on PC, Mac and Linux. Pledges of $20 or higher will also grant access to the pre-alpha version of the title next month. The campaign is due to end on 9th November 2014. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress, reporting back with any further updates on it.
