Owners of the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) developer kits will finally have a new videogame to play today as indie developer Proton Studios launches Time Rifters on PC. Available on Steam for $9.99, this ‘single player co-op’ first-person shooter (FPS) features full support for the Oculus Rift’s first and second development kits (DK1 and DK2), making it one of a handful of fully released titles to support the device.
Every level in Time Rifters features the same simple objective: kill all enemies. Players will have fours lives to try an eliminate each and every enemy in an arena. The twist? When players die, they will be joined by their previous playthroughs in the next life. This gives the title a strategic edge as players work systematically to maximise each life without wasting time on enemies they may have already killed.
Time Rifters also features asynchronous multiplayer that takes the same concept but allows players to fight alongside past recordings of friends and other players. A total of six upgradable weapons can be used across three different episodes, each of which containing five arenas to fight in. The title will allow players to track high scores and includes a custom-made soundtrack.
VRFocus will continue to follow Time Rifter‘s progress post-launch, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
