Oculus VR founder and Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) designer Palmer Luckey has missed out on Personality Award at this year’s Golden Joystick Awards taking place in London, UK. The 22-year old was beaten to the prize by Youtube personality PewDiePie.
Of course, Luckey has already received plenty of accolades this year. Just this month he was honoured at the Smithsonian American Ingenuity Awards and has seen other awards throughout 2014. Oculus VR as a company still had reason to celebrate at the awards as it took home the Innovation award for the Oculus Rift, beating out the likes of the Project Morpheus HMD on PlayStation 4.
The Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) is currently available to purchase for developers. It’s not yet clear when a consumer version of the device might launch. VRFocus will continue to follow the Oculus Rift going forward, reporting back with the latest updates.
