Star Wars fans have already been treated to a virtual reality (VR) recreation of the iconic Millennium Falcon spaceship before. Back in July 2014 an indie developer launched a simple experience in which players could tour the halls and rooms of Han Solo’s ship. This month another virtual replica of the Millenium Falcon has arrived from Daniel Pots. This time the ship has been recreated using the Unity 5 engine.
The demo again lets players explore the rooms of the famous vehicle only this time with the Millennium Falcon actually in-flight as they explore. The demo has been designed to show off some of the new features for Unity 5’s graphics engine, including physically based shading and realtime global illumination. Athough the piece can be downloaded now, the developer insists that it remains a work in progress, with more updates incoming.
Those interested can currently download the demo for free from the official Oculus VR Share Beta on both PC and Mac. There’s currently no word on a possible Linux version of the title. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with all the latest updates.
