Helix Gets DK2 Update

Earlier in 2014 indie developer The Virtual Dutch Men released the world’s first one to one virtual reality (VR) roller coaster in Helix – The Next Level. The experience stands out from other VR roller coasters by perfectly replicating the Helix ride located at the Liseberg theme park in Gothenburg, Sweden. Today the developer has released a new update for the experience, which adds no functionality.

Support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display’s (HMD) second development kit (DK2) highlights this update. The new version of the experience runs on Oculus VR’s latest software development kit (SDK), version 0.4.2, offering players the most up-to-date version possible. DK2 brings with it support for positional tracking, meaning players will now be able to move their head forwards, backwards, left, right, up and down and have these movements replicated in the experience.

The new version of Helix – The Next Level is currently available through the developer’s website for both PC and Mac. The Virtual Dutch Men recently released a tease for a new project that steps away from the developer’s work with VR roller coasters and instead focuses on architecture. VRFocus will continue to follow the developer’s progress in the future, reporting back with any further updates.
