Last month’s reveal of Gear VR, Samsung’s smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), gave way to a number of surprise announcements from developers pledging support to the device. One of the most welcome was Fireproof Games, the developers behind celebrated mobile puzzle series The Room, now working on a free-roaming jetpack title named Omega Agent. The experience is currently being billed as exclusive to Gear VR, but the developer recently revealed to VRFocus that it is aiming to launch on the Oculus Rift later on.
Fireproof Games co-founder Barry Meade revealed as much to VRFocus at this year’s EGX in an interview that will be published in full later in the week. Omega Agent was on display with the Oculus Rift at the event. When asked if it could see a public release on the PC HMD after Gear VR, Meade replied: “Yeah, that’s pretty much it. We’re certainly keeping it in mind anyway. If it goes well and people like the game, and you know actually coming to Eurogamer is one of those forums the helps us decide how this is going to go so it’s really interesting to watch people playing for that reason.”
Omega Agent is a first-person experience in which players find themselves on a remote island serving as a training facility for Cold War super-spies. Players will journey around the island, tackling various challenges and missions as they operate the prototype, nuclear-powered jetpack. VRFocus previewed the title on Gear VR at its reveal event and found promise in its concept, although struggled with simulator sickness during the demo. That said, a potential Oculus Rift version of the title could feature support for positional tracking that would certainly help combat this issue.
Look for the full interview with Meade on VRFocus later in the week as well as any further updates on Omega Agent in the future.
