In May 2014 CCP Games hosted its annual EVE Fanfest event in Reykjavik, Iceland. The event proved to be a big one for upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible space combat title, EVE: Valkyrie. On top of revealing that the experience was transitioning to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 and would star Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sachoff, the developer announced a new comic book miniseries to be published by Dark Horse. That comic book has now received a release date.
As Polygon reports, the first issue of EVE: Valkyrie will go on sale on 3rd June 2015. The series will be written by Brian Wood, who currently writes Marvel Comics’ Moon Knight, and illustrated by Eduardo Francisco who previously worked on one of the Mass Effect comic book miniseries. It will tell the tale of Valkyrie pilot leader Ran and the rise of the Valkyrie craft.
As for EVE: Valkyrie, the title remains something of a poster child for VR at this point in time, regularly showcasing its brand of multiplayer space battles with Oculus VR at industry events. As well as the Oculus Rift PC head-mounted display (HMD), the title plans to launch on PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus HMD. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress as it moves towards launch, reporting back with any further updates.
