Defective Studios already has experience in virtual reality (VR) development. The studio is currently working on CosmoKnots, an upcoming title in which players through obstacle courses in space, collecting items as they leave a trail behind them. The title is currently available in Alpha form from the developer’s website. While work on Cosmoknots continues, Defective Studios has this week announced another new VR title, VRMT.
Note that VRMT is simply a working title for the project right now, as the developer isn’t yet ready to give the title a full media blowout. Instead the team has simply confirmed that VRMT is a VR creation experience and worldbuilding tool. It is aiming to fit somewhere in between Minecraft and Maya, with players using props and tools to create environments. The experience will be multiplayer and is inspired by Bruce Branit’s short film Worldbuilder.
VRMT is the result of some of the numerous development jams that Defective Studios has been taking part in. “We have a lot of ideas and a lot of things that work and we enjoy playing and making, and we’re eager to break from our history of neverending monolithic projects,” the developer noted on its official blog. “As every game developer knows, you make good games by making a ton of games.”
VRFocus will continue to follow both Defective Studios and VRMT, reporting back with all the latest updates.
