It’s been a busy week for indie developer E McNeill and his upcoming virtual reality (VR) videogame, Darknet. The developer recently revealed that he would be giving away the hacking-based videogame for free at the launch of the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD) this year. Follwing that, McNeill also updated the original ‘Flavour Demo‘ for the experience to support the Oculus Rift HMD’s second development kit (DK2). Now a new trailer for the title has arrived, which can be seen below.
Clocking in a just under a minute, Darknet‘s trailer gives a quick run through of the videogame’s premise as well as a good look at the strategic, procedurally generated puzzles that players will solve. The title boasts a unique artstyle that pays tributes to what McNeill describes as ‘hollywood hacking’ as seen in movies such as Ghost in the Shell. As the end of the trailer reveals, Darknet is exclusive to VR, coming to both the Oculus Rift and Gear VR HMDs.
Gear VR’s launch is expected to occur before the end of 2014. When it does release, it will be with a free store. Once a premium store is implemented Darknet will be priced at $10 USD. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress in the run up to launch, reporting back with any further updates on it.
