With its Kickstarter campaign now entering its final two weeks of funding, indie developer VR Bits is currently pushing hard to promote its upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible space combat title, Darkfield. Part of that push includes a new update for the title’s Alpha version, which recently arrived for all those with access to the early version of the experience. The update brings with it a number of new improvements.
Highlighting Darkfield‘s Alpha 4.7b update is the addition of more enemies when using the title’s quickstart feature. Players will now find themselves up against seven enemy ships instead of the previous three when jumping into a match. Other updates include improvements to performance to ensure that the title runs smoother and well as an upgrade to shield impact effects and HDR effects. The Alpha is available to Kickstarter backers that pledge $15 AUD or more.
Darkfield is a co-op focused space combat title in which up to four players take on missions that will require teamwork and use of ship-specific skills and perks. The title features full compatibility with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), sitting players in the cockpits of their spacecraft for an immersive experience. Multiplayer team deathmatch modes will also be included as will single-player exploration sections in which players discover the title’s lore.
Darkfield is currently aiming to raise $10,000 on Kickstarter, which comes to a close on 27th October 2014. At the time of writing, over $6,000 has been raised with the help of over 220 backers. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress as its crowd-funding campaign heads to a close, reporting back with any further updates on it.
