Back in April 2014 VRFocus reported on 3D development tool CopperCube getting an update to include support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). The update meant that users could create VR 3D videogames, apps and websites without the need for any programming as seen in traditional development. This week a new version of CopperCube has released, bringing with it a host of new features that will help those making both traditional and VR applications with the device.
Highlighting the CopperCube 5.0 update is a new terrain editor and a physics engine. There’s also support for video playback in both 2D and 3D. Following that a while host of added features have been included such as animation blending, iOS 8 WebGL support, directional light, procedurally generated trees a faster lightmapper and even shader programming. It should certainly help make the tool a more viable product for those deterred from using the likes of Unreal Engine 4.
All of this arrives along with a new ‘Basic Edition’ of CopperCube, priced a 99 euro. It doesn’t boast as many features as the Professional edition but should serve VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
