Plenty of virtual reality (VR) compatible exploration videogames are worth experiencing even without a big consumer VR head-mounted display (HMD) on the market quite yet. It appears as if The Midway Oasis from indie developer Glen Rhodes will be one such title, having recently launched a pre-release version that is compatible with the Oculus Rift HMD. The title can be played now for free.
The Midway Oasis casts players as someone that finds themselves lost on the titular island, which is seemingly abandoned. Players will explore the environment, taking in a range of surreal sights and sounds as they gather ‘dream spheres’ that will eventually open an exit portal at the top of a ‘Great Tower’. The developer has said that this is simply a pre-release edition of the title and the full version will have ‘more to it’.
Those interested can download The Midway Oasis for free over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta for either PC or Mac. The experience is compatible with the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2). VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
