Earlier in September 2014 VRFocus reported on the launch of a Steam Greenlight campaign for a new virtual reality (VR) extreme sports title named Volo Airsport. The experience, which has been created by a Dutch development team, has proven popular with the Greenlight community, having already passed that campaign. That means that the experience will be sold on Valve’s official PC store come full release, whenever that may be.
“Holy parachutes, Wingman! That was fast. Volo Airsport will be on Steam soon, and we’re celebrating!” the developer wrote in a Greenlight update.”
“Thank you all for voting, it means so much.”
Volo Airsport features full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). It is a third-person experience in which players control an avatar that glides through the air in a wingsuit. Inspired by the Swiss and French Alps, players a free to roam around an enormous environment, travelling at over 250Km/h across mountains and fields. The character’s body and gear are both fully physically simulated.
The title is already available through its own website at a price of $13 USD. This is an Early Access release of Volo Airsport, which the developer has pledged to continue working on. Oculus Rift support is also said to be in need of some work, which the studio will address. VRFocus will continue to follow Volo Airsport going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
