Last week VRFocus reported on the launch of House of Secret’s virtual reality (VR) snowboarding demo. At the time it was perhaps the first snowboarding experience to be available for a VR head-mounted display (HMD). Just a short while later and another snowboarding title has launched a demo compatible with Oculus Rift VR HMD. That title is Summit X Snowboarding, a PC port of an iOS and Android title from Free Range Games.
The demo is currently available for free over at the official Oculus VR Share Beta. As the developer explains, it has been created as a proof of concept using a single mountain from the full title. Players can journey down the course, performing tricks and stunts as they explore. As well as integration with the Oculus Rift second development kit’s (DK2) positional tracking, the demo features support for Xbox controllers and even a hands-free, head-only control scheme.
Players can race against pre-recorded ghosts in this version, although asynchronos multiplayer has been left out for now. It’s currently not clear is the developer intends to push on with developing the full version of Summit X Snowboarding for release on PC or create this as a simple tech demo. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
