Virtual reality (VR) enthusiasts are likely already familiar with publisher and developer Gaijin Entertainment’s War Thunder, a World War II-era combat title that features support for VR head-mounted displays (HMD). What fans might be less aware of is Star Conflict, the space combat title published by the company and developed by Star Gem which also features support for the Oculus Rift VR HMD. This week sees the title receive a release date and a new gameplay mode.
Star Conflict will be officially launching on PC very shortly on 4th September 2014. The title is currently in open beta, but will be making the jump to a full release later in the week. With the launch comes a new, free gameplay type named Invasion Mode. This event-based option sees players commandeering their space craft to defend their home bases, operating in teams across a range of new quests that will reward them with new loot and more.
The mode is currently being tested in closed beta, with Star Gem also currently running a sale for players to stock up on supplies for the new mode. Star Conflict will continue to operate on microtransactions such as these when it launches as a free-to-play title for everyone later in the week. VRFocus will continue to follow Star Conflict going forward, reporting back with any further updates on the title’s progress.
