Even without the release of a true consumer head-mounted display (HMD), virtual reality (VR) is breathing new life into the exploration genre of videogames. The combination of both the rise of the Oculus Rift HMD and the popularity of titles such as Gone Home has taught some developers that all they need is a convincing world to discover and players will be happy. One such developer is Dony Tamazone, who has recently launched a sci-fi exploration title named First Try.
First Try is a first-person experience that starts out within a cave. Players journey through the environment before emergining into a vast desert landscape with a sci-fi-esque pyramid structure and enormous space ships in sight. The objective is simply to find a small robot sitting by the pyramid, though players are encouraged to explore their surroundings in great detail before doing so. A number of spiders of different types and sizes can also be seen throughout.
Tamazone created First Try as an experiment for Oculus Rift development. It’s not clear if any further work will be carried out on the project or if it is finished. Those interested can currently download the title over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta on PC, though Mac and Linux versions are yet to be mentioned. First Try comes with full support for the Oculus Rift’s first and second development kits (DK1 and DK2). VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with the latest.
