This week marks the launch of a Steam Greenlight campaign for perhaps one of the most promising virtual reality (VR) videogames coming from an indie developer. Pixel Rift from Ana Ribeiro has launched its bid to secure enough positive votes to the Steam community to be sold on Valve’s digital store come full release in 2015. When the title does launch it will be with full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).
Pixel Rift is a unique experience in which players are cast as Nicola, a young girl with an addiction to videogames. Nicola has a particular affection for a fictional videogame series known as Pixel Rift which has spanned numerous sequels since its original release when she was a child. Players will travel to different periods in the protagonist’s life, playing different incarnations of Pixel Rift on different consoles and systems in a range of environments.
VRFocus has covered Pixel Rift extensively in the past, finding much promise in its unique concept and innovative ‘game within a game’ approach to levels. Not only is the title on Greenlight now but the developer is set to showcase it at the EGX London event in Earls Court, London later this week. VRFocus will continue to follow Pixel Rift going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
