Today Oculus VR revealed its new Crescent Bay prototype for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). With that reveal came some new software announcements from the Oculus Connect event in Hollywood, California. One such title was from Epic Games, the Gears of War developer that has worked closely with Oculus VR over the past few years to help showcase its device.
Today VP of product Nate Mitchell announced Showdown the latest tech demo from Epic Games. Few details were revealed, although it will be playable at the event. Mitchell went on to call it ‘hands down’ the best Epic Games demo created for the Oculus Rift while CEO Brendan Iribe stated that it was ‘as close to Call of Duty‘ as users would like to get in VR. It sounds like a shooter, then, although keep in mind may not be a fully fleshed out experience that will see a consumer release later down the line.
Crescent Bay includes a range of new updates including a higher display resolution and integrated audio. VRFocus will continue to follow the device going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its progress. Look for the latest news on Oculus VR and Crescent Bay as Oculus Connect goes on.
