Following the announcement of its Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) yesterday, technology giant Samsung revealed a range of compatible videogames playable at its Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany. One such videogame was Land’s End, a brief and surreal experience that could be completed in just a few minutes. At the time it appeared that this could simply be a demo experience for the HMD itself and not destined for a consumer release. As it turns out, that isn’t the case.
Land’s End is in fact the new title from ustwogames, the developer behind this year’s Monument Valley. Little information is available right now although the developer has described it as “A surreal trip through an archipelago of forgotten worlds.” An official website for the experience has also launched. It simply shows a small, sloped island with a few buildings dotted along the surface.
“We’re really excited about working with VR and bringing our own take on the experience,” the developer added. “So many possibilities.”
A specific launch date for the title is yet to be announced, although Gear VR is expected to release in mid-October as an Innovator Edition for developers and early adopters. Could the title be ready in time for launch? Other platforms, such as the Oculus VR HMD or Project Morpheus HMD on PlayStation 4 have not been mentioned so far. VRFocus will continue to follow Land’s End going forward, reporting back with any further updates on the title’s progress.
