Not every developer has a brand new videogame or port to announce for Samsung’s Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display today. But that isn’t stopping some of them still pledging support for the device. One such team to take this route is MixedBag games, the two-man developer behind Futuridium EP Deluxe and the upcoming forma.8. The studio has confirmed it is currently working accross a range of VR platforms.
“Developing for Gear VR was amazing,” the developer wrote in a press release talking about support, “it gave us our first opportunity to get in contact with VR and, thanks to the deep Unity integration, we were able to have our first prototype working in VR in a matter of hours. Being able to freely look around 360 degrees in VR thanks to the self contained hardware of the Gear VR, with no strings attached, was a revelation.”
Just what that this title will be is currently unknown, although the developer did share a look at the prototype it had been working on with the VR device. Along with screenshots (seen below), the team noted that “our main focus is to offer new gameplay experiences in surreal worlds and at 60 frames per seconds, a must to get the best virtual reality experience.”
It appears that whatever the team is developing for Gear VR will also be appearing on the Oculus Rift VR HMD and Project Morpheus VR HMD for PlayStation 4. VRFocus will continue to follow the developer’s progress going forward, reporting back with any further updates on the new title.
