The Matrix VR Updated With New Scenes and DK2 Support

Back in July 2014 VRFocus reported on the release of a new virtual reality (VR) experience based on The Matrix, named The Martix Rift. The piece let players explore several famous scenes from the movie in which humans live in a fully realised virtual simulation of Earth. Now the experience has been updated, seemingly including new scenes and support for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display’s (HMD) second development kit (DK2). It has also been given a new name, The Matrix VR.

Despite the new name, the title seems to be developed by the same team as before and again uses certain assets from The Martix: Path of Neo, the 2005 videogame which followed the events of the movies. In this new version players will get to sample the Jump Program, in which protagonist Neo must leap between tall buildings, as well as the iconic rooftop bullet dodging sequence. Oculus Rift DK2 support brings with it positional tracking, allowing players to accurately move their head around in an experience

The new version of The Matrix VR is available now for free over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta on PC. The experience can also be played with the first development kit (DK1) for the Oculus Rift. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR reporting back with any further updates.
