It’s just under two days after the unveiling of Samsung’s Gear VR, a new virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) that uses the company’s Galaxy Note 4 smartphone as a display. An overwhelming amount of videogames have been announced for the device so far, but it seems like the rush is finally starting to give way. One of the few titles left to talk about is James’s Legacy from Korean developer Nestoss, which was one title to actually be shown within the Unpacked reveal event itself.
James’s Legacy takes the form of an adventure title in which players travel to different planets. It’s possible to walk around the surface of each tiny planet in a Super Mario Galaxy-like fashion as players solve puzzles on the hunt for the titular legacy. Details on the title are scarce right now, thus it’s not clear if the player controls James himself or another character throughout the experience. The title features a colourful, blocky art style that keeps the planet’s surface in view while also showing the space above it.
It appears that James’s Legacy will launch a ‘light version’ with the Gear VR’s release in mid-October 2014. It’s not clear if this version is a simple demo or something more, though the full edition is said to be arriving in January 2015. The title is on display with Gear VR at IFA 2014, running from 5th – 10th September 2014. VRFocus will continue to follow James’s Legacy going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development and progress.
