Harmonix Working on VR Title for Gear VR

Rock Band and Just Dance developer Harmonix has a range of projects in the works right now. Recently the developer completed a successful Kickstarter campaign for a reboot of its beloved classic Amplitude, while it continues to work on other projects such as an Xbox One title Fantasia: Music Evolved, which sees release on 21st October 2014. Today sees the team step in a new direction, however, as it has revealed it is developing virtual reality (VR) software for Samsung’s Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD).

The company’s logo featured on a list of partners for Gear VR during Samsung’s Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany. This reveal was quickly followed by a tweet from the developer’s Dawn Rivers, stating: “Oh man! I can’t wait for folks to see the crazy project I’ve been on at Harmonix for Samsung’s Gear VR! 😀 Such future, so virtual reality.” Just what the project is is yet to be revealed.

Gear VR will be releasing in mid-October as an ‘Innovators Edition’ costing less than $200 USD. The kit is compatible with the newly-announced Samsung Galaxy Note 4, meaning it sports its Quad HD display. VRFocus will continue to follow both Gear VR and Harmonix very closely going forward, reporting back with any further updates on them.
