Indie developer OZWE can now be added to the ever-growing list of studios working on Samsung’s recently unveiled Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). The team has confirmed that it’s upcoming space combat title, Escape Velocity 2: Dogfight!, will be coming to the device as well as the Oculus Rift VR HMD on both PC and Mac. The title’s demo recently launched on the official Oculus VR Share Beta.
Escape Velocity 2: Dogfight! is a third-person space combat title in which players defend a mothership from waves of enemy fighters. Enemies spawn from a warp gate, with players earning points as they defeat them. Ammo is limited, thus players must gather more through various power-ups scattered around the map. While a demo for the title is available, those interested can also purchase access to beta and alpha versions of the title for $15 USD and $20 respecitvely.
It’s not clear if the full version of Escape Velocity 2: Dogfight! will be launching day and date with Gear VR itself, which is expected to hit mid-October 2014. The release will be an Innovator Edition of the headset, aimed at early adopters and developers. VRFocus will continue to follow both the title and the device going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
