Darkfield Early Access Update Adds New Features

Last weekend VRFocus reported that upcoming virtual reality (VR) space combat title Darkfield is soon to enter a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign to raise money to aid development. For those that can’t wait to get their hands on the title, an Early Access version is already available through the team’s website. This week that pre-release version has seen an update, bringing with it a raft of new features.

The update, titled Alpha 4.7, is highlighted by a new ‘Input Manager’ that allows players to customise their own control schemes, effectively adding support for a wide range of input methods including Hands On Throttle-And-Stick (HOTAS) controllers. Players will be able to assign keys and inputs to any kind of action they desire. Some devices also already had prepared profiles, with more to be added in the future.

From a gameplay perspective the new update includes an improved missile system with auto lock-on and a new charge feature. The title’s radar now shows the direction in which player’s shields were hit and the map ‘Station 34’ has been reworked. As for the user interface (UI), the developer has added new quickstart screens to get players up and running faster than before.

Look for Darkfield’s crowd-funding campaign to kick off soon, then. VRFocus will continue to follow the title going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
