Following the reveal of Samaung’s Gear VR smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) earlier in September, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories developer Climax Studios confirmed that it was working on some ‘incredible projects’ for the device along with its upcoming title for the Project Morpheus HMD on PlayStation 4. This week the developer has revealed one of those two Gear VR projects as Bandit Six, a new first-person shooter (FPS).
Bandit Six tasks players with manning the tail guns of a World War Two Bomber, taking down enemy craft as they target them. The title is on rails, with the player’s craft already on a set path, leaving players to simply defend it while it completes its job. The Gear VR’s head-tracking technology is used to target enemies, making the title similar to nDreams’ Gear VR-bound project, Gunner, although set in the past instead of the distant future.
For now Bandit Six is simply listed as ‘coming soon’ for Gear VR. The device itself is expcted to launch in mid-October as an Innovator Edition intended for development teams and early adopters. It’s not clear if this means Bandit Six could be a launch title for the experience or perhaps arrive later down the line. VRFocus will continue to follow the project moving forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
