Today marks a big step forward in the development of virtual reality (VR) compatible title World of Diving, as Dutch studio Vertigo Games launches an early version of the experience via Steam Early Access. The title has launched on PC, Mac and Linux priced at £14.99 GBP. On PC the title features full support for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display’s (HMD) second development kit (DK2).
World of Diving lets up to 16 players dive together to explore exotic underwater locations and wildlife. The title’s development is community-driven with concepts and designs submitted from fans also being implemented. This release also includes a mission editor, allowing players to customise their own levels and share them online. The developer has suggested that the title will remain as an Early Access release for at least six months, though stressing that it could also take longer than that.
“After many months of development, more than 22.5k forum posts with constructive feedback and awesome ideas, and growing our community out to 6,5k open-minded enthusiasts, World of Diving is finally ready for its Steam Early Access launch today,” Richard Stitselaar, Creative Director at Vertigo Games said of the release. “We look forward to welcoming newcomers to the game. Please be aware that as an Early Access game, it is still in development, which means bugs and missing features.”
Vertigo Games also revealed that the full title will be priced higher than this Early Access version, essentially allowing fans to acquire the title for a discount at this point in time. VRFocus will continue to follow World of Diving moving forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
