An intriguing new virtual reality (VR) compatible title from Lunchbox Studios has recently been released onto the official Oculus VR Share Beta. That title is Beaturret, a ‘small’ shooter experience that utilises the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) and its head-tracking technology. The experience can currently be downloaded for free on PC over on the official Oculus VR’s software portal.
As the developer explains, Beaturret “is a small game that can be controlled just by looking at the targets on the beat of the music. Recognize the color patterns of the weapons and aim accordingly. The longer your combo the higher your score. Shoot at the power-ups to advance to the next stage. If you run out of energy the game is over. Combos refill your energy level.”
Interestingly, the experience is listed as ‘pre-release’ on its Oculus VR Share page, suggesting that the title could see further updates if not a full, premium release. Currently the experience is listed as compatible with the Oculus Rift’s first development kit (DK1) with no mention made of the second (DK2). VRFocus will continue to follow the title going forward, reporting back with any further updates.
