Yet another virtual reality (VR) compatible rollercoaster has been released for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) this month. Volcano Rush from developer Nexperience.technology can currently be downloaded for free over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta. Available on PC, the title works with the first development kit (DK1) version of the Oculus Rift, with no word on a DK2-supported release just yet.
Volcano Rush sets itself apart from other VR rollercoasters with its environment. Instead of being based in an amusement park, the experience is actually set in pre-historic times, with players experiencing a rollercoaster ride around a fiery environment populated with dinosaurs and lava spewing from cracks in the ground. The developer has also included several loops and corkscrews in the course, unlike other experiences.
VR rollercoasters have proved to be popular experiences for developers to create over the course of the past year. We’re yet to see how the arrival of the Oculus Rift’s second development kit can really impact the genre, however. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
