Earlier in the year indie developer Rosebud Games failed to achieve funding for an ambitious new first-person shooter (FPS) named Death in Candlewood, which included a stretch goal for support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). Since that campaign’s failure the developer has remained silent. Now it has revealed that it is currently developing a new first-person title, while will be available before the year is out.
“We are back in action currently working on a first-person exploration game which will be available by the end of 2014 based on DiC universe!” a Twitter post from the developer’s official account revealed.
DiC likely stands for Death in Candlewood, suggesting that the developer hasn’t given up hope on developing the full experience just yet. The exploration part of the message suggests that this new title, whatever it may be, will take the focus away from the combat and weapons that were talked about for the original title. Is this title set to replace Death in Candlewood or could it simply be a taster experience before work on the original title resumes?
No mention of VR support is made for the new title, though first-person exploration is certainly a fitting genre for the technology at this point in time. VRFocus will continue to follow the developer’s progress on the new title going forward, reporting back with all the latest.
