Despite some refreshingly aggressive marketing and a strikingly positive reaction from the virtual reality (VR) community, Tammeka Games’ Radial-G has failed to reach its funding goal on Kickstarter. The 30 day campaign came very close to successful completion with a strong push in the final few days, closing at £38,820 GBP of its £50,000 target.
Radial-G is a futuristic racing videogame designed for VR – but not exclusive to it – with a demo version available to download for PC gamers. The Oculus Rift build supports both DK1 and DK2 head-mounted displays (HMDs) and Tammeka Games had already begun work on a PlayStation 4 port for Project Morpheus compatibility. Furthermore, the studio had promised to support as many additional VR platforms as possible, including Android based devices.
Knowing the need to promote the Kickstarter campaign for Radial-G was incredibly important, Tammeka Games spent much time in the public eye. Visible on community forums, touring trade shows and public events with playable demos of Radial-G and even producing a regular development diary here at VRFocus, Racing to Kickstart VR, Tammeka Games certainly put more effort into their campaign than most.
Tammeka Games will now pursue other avenues in order to finance Radial-G. There are additional crowdfunding opportunities, such as Indiegogo, but the team have also received a great deal of interest from a number of key industry figures.
