New Spacewalk VR Title Released

In June 2014 VRFocus reported on the release of VR Spacewalk from IgnisVR. The title allowed players to roam around an open section of space, exploring the International Space Station from the outside using an Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD). This week sees the launch of a new version of similar experience titled Spacewalk, this time created by Otherworld Interactive and again compatible with the Oculus Rift.

Spacewalk is currently free to download over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta on both PC and Mac, and is compatible with both the first and second development kits (DK1 and DK2) for the Oculus Rift. The title again allows players to explore space just outside of the international space station. The developer describes it as ‘an interactive experiment in alternative control schemes, free-form play, virtual embodiment, and metagame communication.’

In the past Spacewalk has featured at the likes of the Tribeca Film Festival and NBC News. The original version of the title released back in May 2013, making it one of the first Oculus Rift supported demos to become available for everyone to download. Since that time sites such as the Oculus VR Share platform have hosted a long list of new demos and experiences that VR enthusiasts can sample in the long wait for a consumer version of the headset.

VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with the latest.
