Exploration titles are a popular genre for virtual reality (VR) adaptions for obvious reasons. Many simply ask players to use an Xbox 360 controller as they traverse environments, inspecting every tiny detail. Now a new VR exploration title, Kira, has arrived, bringing with it an innovative new means of exploring these environments with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD).
Kira is described by developer Bully! Entertainment as a ‘magical exploration’ experience that uses hands-free movement. Players explore a fantastical setting, navigating the environment by simply focusing on blue orbs known as travel markers to move to that locations. It seems as if this release on the official Oculus VR Share Beta is an early version of the title, though further plans are yet to be revealed.
Kira can be downloaded for free over on the site, though is currently only available for Mac. A PC version is yet to be mentioned. This version supports the first development kit (DK1) for the Oculus Rift. It appears to be the first foray into VR for Bully! Entertainment, which is known for producing immersive interactive experiences, in the past working with augmented reality (AR). VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
