The horror genre has seen something of a revival with the rise of virtual reality (VR) technology, and this week sees yet another new entry into the genre for the technology release. That title is Parasite, an immersive horror experience from indie developer Lippe which can currently be downloaded for free over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta on PC. Mac and Linux versions of the experience are yet to be confirmed.
Parasite is designed for use with the first development kit (DK1) for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD). It is a first-person experience in which players find themselves trapped in a disused facility. Players must interact with objects to find a means of escaping while enduring several horrors as they go. Developed using the Unity Engine, Parasite was created in the space of just eight weeks.
It seems that Parasite will remain as the experience it is now, with no mention made of a further release or possible full videogame. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR going forward, reporting back with any further updates on both the technology and its software.
