It’s currently not clear just how big of a show this year’s PAX Prime will be for virtual reality (VR) when it takes place on on 29th – 31st August in Seattle, Washington. The event’s show floor is bound to have VR experiences scattered around it as well as an official showing from Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) maker Oculus VR as well. But VR enthusiasts can also look forward to a unique panel taking place on the expo’s first day, looking at the technology’s history.
‘A History of VR: Haven’t We Been Here Before?’ will be held at the Wyvern Theatre at 17:00 BST on Friday 29th August. It will feature a panel consisting of Wayward Sprites CEO John Williamson, Shrapnel CEO Mark Long, University of Washington professor Dr. Tom Furness, and Simiosys Real World Laboratory Creative Experience Director Christopher Stapleton. Each with be dicussing VR’s previous, unsuccessful attempt to break into the mainstream and what has changed this time around.
On top of the discussion, older VR HMDs will also be on display with footage from early titles that ran with them being shown. It’s bound to be an interesting look back at the technology’s beginnings long before Palmer Luckey designed the Oculus Rift. VRFocus will be at PAX Prime to bring you all the latest VR updates.
