This month has seen the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming first-person adventure title, Kôna. Indie developer Parabole is looking for $40,000 USD to fund development of the episodic title, with support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) having recently transformed from a possibility into a certainty should it get funded. The first trailer for the title has also been posted, and can be seen below.
Clocking in at over a minute and a half, the trailer consists almost entirely of gameplay footage from Kôna, which casts players as Private Detective Carl Faubert in Northen-Quebec in 1970. The footage provides a strong sense of the title’s atmosphere, showcasing snowy, deserted roads and darkened cabin environments, with a tease of gunplay coming in at the end. As the developer reveals at the start of the footage, viewers will need to active subtitles if they cannot speak French.
Kôna‘s Kickstarter campaign is hoping to raise enough money by 6th September 2014 to help fund the development of each of the title’s four episodes. Should funding prove successful then the title hopes to launch the first episode on PC, Mac and Linux in June 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow Kôna‘s progress going forward, reporting back with any more updates on its development.
