Last week Unello Design announced that it would be releasing its relaxing virtual reality (VR) experience, Eden River, on 8th August 2014. As promised, the title has indeed launched today, albiet in an Early Access form. The title can be picked up now on Windows PCs for $9.99 USD via the developer’s official website. A full launch on Steam is planned for the final version of the experience.
Eden River simply allows players to drift down a peaceful river, taking in various sights and admiring wildlife as they go. Lead developer Aaron Lemke also supplies the acoustic soundtrack for the title. The experience includes both a linear story option and an endless exploration mode, with classic variations of both based on the title’s original demo which was released in November 2013. The title is compatible with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD).
“Eden River HD goes on sale today as an early-access release,” the developer wrote in an update on the title’s official site. “As a thank you for bearing with us as we prepare an optimization update next week to take care of lingering issues with the transition from Oculus SDK 0.3.2 to 0.4.0 for the DK2, early access purchases will include the Opera Nova DK2 demo (previously a pre-order bonus) until the final version of Eden River HD launches on Steam. Steam keys will be provided upon release to pre-order and early-access users who request them.”
A release date for the final version of the title was not listed. VRFocus will continue to follow Eden River going forward, reporting back with any further updates.
