Towards the end of July 2014 VRFocus reported on the release of a new video featuring gameplay from an upcoming demo of virtual reality (VR) compatible square-based dungeon-crawler, Crystal Rift from indie developer Jon Hibbins. Now that demo has launched over on the official Oculus VR Share Beta, where it can be downloaded for free on PC.
As Hibbins explains in the title’s description, Crystal Rift is: “A square based dungeon crawling Oculus Rift Game inspired by Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder.” Players move on a grid, travelling across one square at a time as they solve traps and environmental puzzles while also enduring a range of scares that the developer has lined up. The title also features a level editor for users to create their own content.
The demo is compatible with both the first and second versions of the Oculus Rift’s development kit (DK1 and DK2). It is not yet clear when the full version of Crystal Rift might launch. VRFocus will continue to follow the title going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
