Last month saw the release of Der Grosse Gottlieb, the next entry in indie developer Daniël Ernst’s series virtual reality (VR) dioramas named The Shoebox Diorama. At the time is was suggested that the developer’s next scene would be called The Pigeon Man, though it wasn’t revealed what the piece would involve. Now new details about the title have been revealed, along with news that it will debut at Gamescom 2014 next week.
Ernst’s next piece will be at the event on 13th – 17th August at the Holland Pavilion, showcasing 10 titles from Dutch indie developers. As the site for the line up reveals, The Pigeon Man is compatible with the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD). It is described as a ‘magic’ and ‘illustrative’ adventure in focuses on conversations with a range of characters. Unlike other The Shoebox Diorama pieces, players will be able to do more than simply observe, controlling conversations by looking in certain directions.
The first art from the experience can be seen above. Apparently the title’s environment is digitally hand-painted. Aside from that, fans will have to wait until next week to see what Ernst has in store for them with his latest piece. The developer’s previous work includes the Tetris-inspired Blocked In. VRFocus will be at Gamescom to bring you all the latest VR news from the likes of the Oculus Rift to Project Morpheus.
