This week’s San Diego Comic-Con on 24th – 27th July 2014 is set to feature a range of virtual reality (VR) experiences. While there’s sure to be a range of VR videogames on display, several movie and TV studios are also set to utilise the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) for unique promotional experiences. 20th Century Fox has already revealed it will use the HMD to promote the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, and now Warner Bros. has provided details on its own VR experience.
The company is set to show off a new ‘4-D immersive Oculus Rift experience’ to promote its upcoming movie, Into the Storm. Titled Into The Storm: The 4D Oculus Rift Experience, the demo will put users into a recreated scene from the upcoming ‘tornado survival’ film. It wasn’t detailed exactly how the experience will play out, though users can be sure to expect to ‘experience Mother Nature at her most extreme’.
Those who take part will have their reactions film on camera and will be able to share their time with the experience on a social wall on Facebook, Tumble, Twitter and Youtube. As for the actual Into the Storm movie, it’s set to release on 8th August 2014. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all news surrounding VR, reporting back with the latest updates on the technology and its uses.
